I had the honor to be invited by my boss to tag along side him to the BenQ International Sculpture Workshop 2011 at Mabuville last Friday. It was an invite-only exhibit fully sponsored by the Taiwanese Electronics company, BenQ. This Mabuville is situated in 北埔 and it is actually a training ground for new BenQ employees. The place is really gorgeous - it feels more like a private villa than anything else! Over here, i will only be posting the sculptures. The remaining photos will be uploaded onto my Facebook account :)
2010 Sculptures
Bridge of Winds by Nando Alvarez (Spain). "My sculpture here is an abstract work where I try to reflect the movement and the lightness of the wind. I like everyone to feel free to find his own interpretation of my work, and I invite the people to do it without caring too much about what I think..."
Tricycle by Kemal Tufan (Turkey). "A huge size of marble tricycle makes the people smile and recall the happiness of childhood."
The Gate by Fernando Pinto (Colombia). "It is a work meant to be a place for meditation, for reflection. Like a gate is used to pass from one place to another, my work will be used for people to pass from one state of mind to another, representing also that humanity is changing its conscience towards nature. It is a place to connect to the earth and universal spirit which we all are a small part of."
Between Two Directions by Ariel Moscovici (France). "It is shaped as an axle connecting the earth and the sky, looks like a plant or a construction growing toward the future, capable of containing all forms of life to come."
The Taiwanese call it the Lychee technique due to the resemblance to a lychee surface.
Moon Mirror 32 by Emil Adamec (Czech Republic). "It is a part of global sculpture project "Acupuncture of Earth" and particularly composition called "32 Moon Mirrors in China" as is described in the maps. Each point has direct relation with opposite composition "Sun Mirrors" in opposite part of globe. "Moon Mirror 32" symbolizes "cross border dialogue" with other already existed points."
Waking wood by Stephen Woodward (New Zealand). "Two elements; like a waking figure, construction timber morphs into a branch and then flowers into a tree. It represents the re-birth of the living form. This lies upon a wedge shaped bed of rooflines."
Nature by Liliya Pobornikov (Bulgaria). "My project inspired by the beauty of the nature, is the dialog and conversation between the people and nature, understanding and appreciation of the difference between us. Soft natural shapes combined with strict geometry lines are reflection of this dialog and crossroads between meeting points of the cultures."
